Double Arrow Resort
I was the sole “wife” dragged along a snowmobiling trip with the guys. I do like to ride, but not all day, so I spent some of the time back at the Double Arrow while the boys did their thing ...

When it gets cold, time freezes in the Seeley-Swan Valley. At least, that’s how it feels when you cozy into the vintage Double Arrow Lodge or the long-established Rich Ranch. From their timbered comfort, you can trade in your telephone and TV for sleigh rides, ice-fishing excursions (just pick a lake—there’s 8 big ones) and endless snowmobile adventures—all powered by time-honored eateries like Littlebird’s Schoolhouse in Seeley Lake and Trixie’s in Ovando.
Another thing happens when it gets cold here—celebration. In late January, the town throws Winterfest, with a chili cook-off, dessert festival, ice-sculpture contest, snowmobile poker run, bonfires, cocoa and more. In February, huskies stoke their dreams of the Iditarod at the Race to the Sky qualifier. For the rest of the winter, the party is simply in the partaking—finding hidden backcountry stashes and cozy yurt digs with Yurtski, marveling at frozen Morrell Falls aboard a snowmobile and cross-country skiing up the mystical North Fork of Lost Creek.
