Polar Paradox: West Yellowstone
Turns out, polar opposites come together in polar conditions. In West Yellowstone, cross-country skiers peacefully glide along the Riverside Ski Trail while snowmobilers dive into the area's annual 13 feet of snowfall. Here, diehard motorheads and spandex fanatics unite—over Happy Hour Bar brews, lunches at Kiwi' Takeaway, and a mutual love for Yellowstone National Park's winter splendor.
Try it all: nab ski rentals and a latte at local outdoor/rental/coffee shop Freeheel & Wheel, or hit up Yellowstone Vacations to rent a snowmobile, join a guided ride into the Park, or tour Yellowstone via cozy snowcoach. Back in town, refuel with homemade mac n' cheese and a brew at Wild West Pizzeria. Then, tuck in at the off-the-beaten-path Hebgen Lake Mountain Inn to dream of purring engines, rythmic pole plants, and frosty bison sightings.

Last year we explored the West Yellowstone area. Normally we head right in to Yellowstone but decided instead to find out what else there is right outside of the park. We spent a weekend at Baker’s Hole Campground and ...
