Montana is full of beautiful places, but none surpass the pristine and undeveloped beauty of Montana's Centennial Valley. The 55,000 acare Red Rock Lakes National Wildlife Refuge sits in the valley's heart. Home to a vast abundance of bird and wildlife species, Red Rock Lakes has rightfully been dubbed the most beautiful wildlife refuge in the lower 48. Tucked back into a private nook, on the shores of Elk Lake, Elk Lake Resort offers the *perfect* base from which to explore the Centennial Valley, fish for the fiesty trout inhabiting the area's high mountain lakes and streams, or escape the hustle and bustle of city life. Surrounded by public lands, nestled on the shores of Elk Lake, protected by the surrounding mountains, and secluded from the rest of the world, Elk Lake Resort's guests take a step back in time while maintaining modern era comforts. No paved roads. No street lights. No noise diffusion - just pure nature and pristine beauty in every direction. Visit Elk Lake! Their spectacular setting, scrumptious hand-prepared food, comfortable cabins, and friendly down-home hospitality will guarantee you the BEST Montana has to offer!

Headframe Spirits is my new favorite bar...anywhere! If you are in Butte for one night, go here. If you are in Butte for two nights, go here twice. Not only can you buy their great liquor by the bottle, but they also have fabulous cocktails that showcase all of their liquors. I tried a Moscow Mule in a copper mug and a Basil Lemonade. The service is fabulous, the drinks are delicious and there was live music both nights I was there. Make plans to go here now. Do it.

What a great place to end the day exploring Butte! If you love hand-crafted beer, make sure you stop in while you are in Butte.

I didn't get to stay here, but I went inside and was treated to a tour of the ground floor by the very friendly owner. I wish I had stayed the night! The house is in great shape and is beautiful.

Nevada City is a very fun, historical stop. The buildings are in great shape, including a two-story outhouse (?!?!), and are filled with items from the era. Virginia City is an operating city in old buildings. Both are worth a visit.

This is your classic, small town breakfast diner. Good food, friendly service and lots of locals. My breakfast was called "The Horse You Rode In On" and it was a delicious way to start the day.
